Day 1: Arrival in Santa Cruz — Giant Tortoise Ranch & Lava Tunnels
Your journey begins at Baltra Airport, where our assistant is waiting past the entry formalities to welcome you and take care of your luggage. A short ride brings us to the Itabaca Channel, and a five-minute ferry crossing lands us on Santa Cruz the most biologically diverse island in the archipelago.
Rather than heading straight to town, we drive up into the highlands, where the arid coast gives way to a green, misty world of Scalesia forest. At a private giant tortoise ranch, hundreds of tortoises roam freely across open pasture and ponds. These are wild animals, not enclosed you walk among them on their own terms, watching creatures weighing over 250 kilos graze and wallow, some of them well over a century old. Rubber boots are provided, and your guide explains how these giants came back from the edge of extinction to become the symbol of the islands.
At the same site we walk through the lava tunnels, underground tubes formed when the crust of a lava flow cooled and hardened while molten rock kept draining beneath it. Some run for hundreds of meters and are tall enough to walk upright — a reminder that the ground here is younger than most cities on Earth.
In the late afternoon we descend to Puerto Ayora and check you into your hotel. Our assistant will confirm tomorrow's schedule before leaving you to settle in. The evening is yours to explore the waterfront, where pelicans and sea lions crowd the fish market at cleaning time.

Transfer to Isabela — Tortoise Breeding Center, Flamingo Lagoon & Las Tintoreras
We leave Puerto Ayora early. Our assistant accompanies you to the main dock and helps with your luggage before you board the speedboat to Isabela a crossing of about two hours across open ocean, where rays, sea turtles and dolphins often appear alongside the boat.
Isabela is the largest island in the archipelago, six volcanoes fused into one, and it feels different the moment you arrive: Puerto Villamil is a barefoot village of sand streets and palm trees where nothing moves quickly. After checking in and having lunch, we set out on foot.
The trail behind town crosses the flamingo lagoon, a brackish wetland where flamingos feed in the shallows alongside white-cheeked pintails, common stilts and gallinules. It's one of the best places in Galápagos for birdwatching, and it's a five-minute walk from where you're staying. We continue among opuntia cacti to the Arnaldo Tupiza Giant Tortoise Breeding Center, where five distinct tortoise populations one from each of Isabela's volcanoes are raised side by side, from hatchlings the size of a fist to adults of over 200 kilos.
In the afternoon we board a boat for Las Tintoreras, a cluster of islets just off the port. A short trail crosses jagged black lava past one of the largest marine iguana nesting colonies in the islands, ending at a narrow crystalline channel where white-tip reef sharks rest motionless below the surface. Galápagos penguins perch on the rocks and sea turtles glide through the bay. We snorkel in the sheltered water before returning to Puerto Villamil at sunset.
Day 3: Los Túneles Snorkeling Excursion — Sea Turtles, Sharks & Lava Arches
Today is the day most of our travelers remember longest. We leave Puerto Villamil in the morning by small boat, following the southern coast of Isabela for about 45 minutes until the shoreline opens into something that looks invented: hundreds of lava arches and bridges rising just above the waterline, formed when molten rock met the sea and cooled mid-collapse. Cactus and mangrove have taken root on top. Blue-footed boobies nest on the arches, and the water between them is so still and clear you can count the fish from the boat.
Our captain navigates slowly through the channels while your guide points out what's around you. Then we go in.
The snorkel here is calm and shallow no current, no depth, no experience required which is why it works so well for first-timers, families and anyone who prefers not to swim in open ocean. Below you: sea turtles the size of a coffee table grazing on algae, entirely unbothered by your presence; white-tip reef sharks tucked motionless under the lava ledges; golden rays and eagle rays passing over the sand; and, for the patient, seahorses gripping the mangrove roots. Galápagos penguins often fish nearby.
We serve a box lunch on board and return to Puerto Villamil in the afternoon.
Day 4: Transfer to Santa Cruz Island — Free Afternoon in Puerto Ayora
We say goodbye to Isabela after breakfast. Our team accompanies you to the dock and helps with your luggage before you board the morning speedboat to Santa Cruz around two hours across open ocean, where rays, sea turtles and pods of dolphins often appear alongside the boat.
Our assistant will be waiting for you at the pier in Puerto Ayora, the largest town in the archipelago, and will take you to your hotel. Before leaving you, they'll go over your options for the afternoon and confirm tomorrow's pickup time.
The rest of the day is yours, and Puerto Ayora rewards the wandering. A 40-minute trail through cactus forest leads to Tortuga Bay, a long stretch of white sand where marine iguanas gather by the hundreds and a sheltered lagoon at the far end is perfect for swimming or kayaking.
The Charles Darwin Research Station is a 15-minute walk along the shore. Closer still, the fish market on the waterfront draws a crowd of pelicans and sea lions who have long since decided they belong there, and Avenida Charles Darwin has the best cafés, restaurants and craft shops in Galápagos.
Whatever you choose, our team is a phone call away throughout the day.
Day 5 : Bartolomé or North Seymour Island Day Tour — Your Choice, Subject to Availability
Today we sail by yacht to one of the archipelago's uninhabited islands a full day among wildlife that has never had reason to fear people. You choose between two very different destinations, subject to availability.
Bartolomé is the most photographed landscape in Galápagos. A wooden boardwalk of nearly 400 steps climbs a barren volcanic cone past spatter cones, lava flows and tuff formations to a summit lookout, where Pinnacle Rock rises from a perfect twin bay below. The view stretches across a moonscape of red and ochre craters to Santiago Island beyond. Afterwards we snorkel at the base of the pinnacle, where Galápagos penguins dart past swimmers, white-tip reef sharks patrol the shallows and sea turtles glide over the reef.
North Seymour is the opposite: flat, low and teeming with birds. A trail of just under two kilometers crosses uplifted marine lava through the largest frigatebird colony in the islands, where males inflate scarlet throat pouches the size of a balloon to attract passing females. Blue-footed boobies nest directly on the path and perform their courtship dance lifting each foot in turn, whistling, presenting twigs often within arm's reach. Land iguanas move slowly beneath the palo santo, and sea lions occupy the small beach at the end of the trail.
Day 6: Goodbye Galápagos — Transfer to Baltra Airport
After breakfast there's time for a final walk along the waterfront, a last coffee in town, or a few souvenirs before we set off. Our assistant then transfers you across Santa Cruz to the Itabaca Channel, where a short ferry crossing and a brief ride bring you to Baltra Airport in time for your flight back to Quito or Guayaquil. We assist you through check-in and stay with you until you're on your way.
Six days is enough to change how you see the natural world. You've walked among tortoises that were alive before your grandparents were born, swum with sea lions who came looking for you, and stood on lava that is younger than the town you live in.

“Pedro was a fantastic tour guide. I’d highly recommend booking this tour, it’s a combo of shared tours with a guide and a private tour. What’s even better is he acts as your have your own personal photographer and if you have dietary requirements this is perfect, since we don’t know the language Pedro handled everything.”

From the moment we arrived, everything felt easy and smooth. But what I really loved is that it didn’t feel like a structured tour. It felt more like traveling with friends, where someone else had already taken care of all the details. We just showed up, enjoyed, and lived in the moment.”

The water in the Galápagos Islands is so clear it almost feels unreal, and snorkeling there was simply incredible. Everything feels so pure and natural… you truly connect with the place.
I love penguins, and I really wanted to see them but I also knew it’s not always easy. And just when I wasn’t expecting it anymore, they appeared.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What is best time to Isabela Island?
Isabela is beautiful year-round. June–November brings cooler, drier weather (garúa season) with excellent snorkeling visibility and active sea lions. December–May is warmer with calmer seas, better for swimming and spotting green sea turtles nesting.
How fit do I need to be for this tour?
The tour is rated moderate. The Sierra Negra hike (Day 3) is the most demanding — about 16 km round-trip on uneven volcanic terrain. If you have mobility concerns, contact us and we can adapt the itinerary to replace the volcano hike with a boat excursion.
How do I get to Isabela Island from Quito
Fly from Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE) to Baltra (GPS) or San Cristóbal (SCY). From Baltra, take the bus to the harbor, then a ferry to Santa Cruz, and a speedboat (~2 hours) to Puerto Villamil, Isabela. We handle all transfers from the airport onward.
Is this $200 Galapagos park fee included?
Yes — the Galápagos National Park entrance fee ($200 for international visitors) and the INGALA transit card ($40) are both included in all packages. You just need to bring cash for personal expenses, tips and optional extras.
Can I travel solo or do I need a group?
Solo travelers are very welcome! Budget and Standard packages join small groups (max 6–12 people). The Premium package is fully private. Solo supplement may apply for single-occupancy rooms — ask us for current rates.
