Day 1

Day 1: Arrival in Santa Cruz + Giant Tortoises in the Highlands

Your Galápagos land tour begins at Baltra Airport, where our team welcomes you and transfers you across the Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz Island. From the arid coast we climb into the Santa Cruz highlands, a cooler, misty world of Scalesia forest where giant tortoises roam freely across open pasture wild animals, not enclosed, some weighing over 250 kilos. Nearby, underground lava tunnels formed by ancient eruptions run hundreds of meters through the rock. A gentle introduction to the wildlife and volcanic origins of these islands.

- Arrival at Baltra Airport and transfer to Santa Cruz Island -Visit a giant tortoise reserve (El Chato or similar) -Observe giant tortoises in their natural habitat -Walk through natural lava tunnels formed by volcanic activity -Spot local wildlife such as finches and Galápagos ducks -Transfer to hotel and check-in on Santa Cruz Island

Day 2

Day 2: Tortuga Bay + Charles Darwin Research Station

The morning belongs to Tortuga Bay, reached on foot by a 40-minute trail through cactus forest from Puerto Ayora no boat required. The beach opens into a long stretch of fine white sand, with a sheltered lagoon at the far end where the water is calm enough for kayaking. Marine iguanas gather by the hundreds on the black rock, sea turtles nest along the dunes between January and June, and pelicans, herons and Darwin's finches move through the mangroves.

In the afternoon we visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, the scientific institution behind six decades of conservation work in the islands. Here you'll see giant tortoises at every stage of life, from hatchlings in the rearing pens to enormous adults, and learn how the breeding program returned several populations from the edge of extinction.

- Beach time at Playa Brava and Playa Mansa - Optional kayaking - Wildlife: marine iguanas, turtles, frigatebirds - Darwin Station exhibits & conservation programs

Day 3

Day 3: Transfer to Isabela + Los Túneles Cabo Rosa Snorkeling Experience

We leave Puerto Ayora early for the two-hour speedboat crossing to Isabela, the largest island in the archipelago  six volcanoes fused into one. Rays, sea turtles and dolphins often appear alongside the boat. On arrival at Puerto Villamil, a barefoot village of sand streets and palm trees, we check in before heading out again by sea.

A 45-minute coastal ride south brings us to Los Túneles, at Cabo Rosa. Here, lava flows collapsed into the ocean and hardened mid-fall, leaving hundreds of arches, bridges and shallow channels just above the waterline. Cactus and mangrove have taken root on top; blue-footed boobies nest on the arches. The water between the formations is still and glass-clear.

The snorkel here is shallow and current-free  ideal for beginners, families and anyone who would rather not swim in open ocean. Below you: sea turtles grazing on algae, white-tip reef sharks resting motionless beneath the lava ledges, golden rays and eagle rays crossing the sand, and seahorses gripping the mangrove roots for those who look closely. Galápagos penguins often fish nearby.

We return to Puerto Villamil in the late afternoon.

Day 4

Day 4: Sierra Negra Volcano Hike & the Lava Fields of Volcán Chico

Sierra Negra is one of the most active volcanoes in the Galápagos and holds one of the largest calderas on Earth  roughly ten kilometers across, so wide the far rim dissolves into cloud. It last erupted in 2018, and the flows from that eruption are still visibly fresh.

We leave Puerto Villamil early and drive into the agricultural highlands, where the trail begins. The ascent is gradual, climbing through guava and native forest before the vegetation thins and the caldera opens without warning to your right a black basin so vast that scale becomes difficult to read. Your guide explains how a shield volcano forms: not through explosive eruption, but through fluid lava spreading outward in successive layers over hundreds of thousands of years.

Weather permitting, we continue along the rim to Volcán Chico, on the northern flank, and this is where the landscape becomes genuinely strange. The ground shifts from black to red, ochre and sulfur yellow, oxidized by escaping gas. Fumaroles still vent steam from fissures underfoot. Spatter cones, pressure ridges and collapsed lava tubes lie exposed with no soil to cover them, and on clear days the view opens north across Elizabeth Bay to Fernandina, the youngest and most pristine island in the archipelago.

We stop for a box lunch surrounded by that view before descending. The full route covers approximately 16 kilometers and takes around six hours of walking.

- Guided hike to Sierra Negra, featuring a 10 km wide crater - Continue to Volcan Chico for lunar-like landscapes and panoramic island views - Observe endemic birds such as Darwin finches

Day 5

Day 5: Flamingos, Wetlands & Giant Tortoises on Isabela - Crossing to Santa Cruz

Our last morning on Isabela is spent on foot, exploring the wetland complex that stretches behind Puerto Villamil  the most extensive coastal wetland system in the Galápagos and a Ramsar designated site.

A network of boardwalks and trails crosses brackish lagoons fed by underground channels where seawater and rainwater meet. This is the best place in the archipelago to observe the Galápagos flamingo, of which fewer than 500 individuals remain across all the islands. They feed by sweeping their heads upside down through the shallows, filtering the shrimp and larvae whose carotenoid pigments give their feathers that intense pink. Around them, white-cheeked pintails, common stilts, gallinules and migratory shorebirds share the same water.

The trail continues through mangrove and opuntia cactus to the Arnaldo Tupiza Giant Tortoise Breeding Center. Isabela is a case study in isolation: each of its six volcanoes rises high enough that its tortoise population evolved separately from the others, producing distinct shell shapes and body sizes on a single island. Five of these populations are raised here in parallel, in separate corrals to prevent hybridization  from hatchlings the size of a fist to adults exceeding 200 kilos. Your guide explains the incubation process, where sand temperature determines whether a hatchling develops as male or female.

We return for lunch and then board the afternoon speedboat to Santa Cruz, a two-hour crossing arriving in Puerto Ayora in the early evening.

Day 6

Day 6: Departure Day - Puerto Ayora to Baltra Airport

After breakfast, there is time for a final walk along the waterfront or a last coffee in Puerto Ayora before we set off. At the appropriate hour, we transfer you across Santa Cruz to the Itabaca Channel, where a short ferry crossing and a brief ride bring you to Baltra Airport for your flight back to mainland Ecuador. Assistance is provided at check-in.

You leave with something these islands give every visitor: the memory of animals that never learned to fear you  a sea lion that swam over to look at you, a tortoise that simply kept eating as you passed, a booby nesting in the middle of the trail. There is nowhere else on Earth where wildlife behaves this way, and it exists only because it has been protected.

We hope this is not your last visit to the Enchanted Islands.

“Pedro was a fantastic tour guide. I’d highly recommend booking this tour, it’s a combo of shared tours with a guide and a private tour. What’s even better is he acts as your have your own personal photographer and if you have dietary requirements this is perfect, since we don’t know the language Pedro handled everything.”

“I traveled to the Galapagos with a group of friends, and this 5 day tour through Santa Cruz, Isabela, and Santa Fe turned Outlook de ahí y to be so much more than just a trip… it’s something we’re still laughing about and talking about even now.
From the moment we arrived, everything felt easy and smooth. But what I really loved is that it didn’t feel like a structured tour. It felt more like traveling with friends, where someone else had already taken care of all the details. We just showed up, enjoyed, and lived in the moment.”

“Honestly, this was an experience that made me really happy.
The water in the Galápagos Islands is so clear it almost feels unreal, and snorkeling there was simply incredible. Everything feels so pure and natural… you truly connect with the place.
I love penguins, and I really wanted to see them but I also knew it’s not always easy. And just when I wasn’t expecting it anymore, they appeared.”

“This was a great experience in The Galapagos. All details were handled by Real Dreams tour company. Starting at the airport in Baltra, our guide Enrique met us inside the airport, led us to the line for the bus. He told us where to put our luggage and where to wait. The bus took us to a ferry. At the end of the ferry ride a driver was waiting to take us to the Tortoise Ranch. There we had lunch and Enrique gaves a tour of the grounds. Afterwards, our driver took us to our hotel in Santa Cruz.”
