Tour highlights

This 7-day Galápagos island hopping tour connects the three inhabited islands - San Cristóbal, Santa Cruz and Isabela - in one smooth, land-based trip. You sleep in comfortable hotels each night and travel by speedboat between islands, so you get the depth of a cruise without the price tag or the seasickness. Along the way you'll snorkel Kicker Rock, walk with giant tortoises in the highlands, hike Sierra Negra and swim at Los Túneles.

Galapagos island hopping 7 days means real hotel beds and day boats doing the work: Santa Cruz highlands, Isabela’s Los Túneles, and Kicker Rock off San Cristóbal, one island at a time. As a complete galapagos island hopping package it covers ferries, guides, and every logistics headache — and as a 7 day galapagos tour it runs roughly half the price of a week at sea. For ferry logistics, seasons, and packing detail, our island hopping guide goes deeper whenever you need it.

Day 1: Arrival in San Cristóbal — Where the Islands Explain Themselves

Most Galápagos itineraries never reach San Cristóbal. It's the easternmost and oldest of the inhabited islands, and starting here means starting at the beginning of the story  geologically and historically. This is where Darwin first came ashore in 1835.

It's also the island where the wildlife makes its position clear immediately. San Cristóbal is the one airport in the archipelago where sea lions sleep on the benches and the pier, and nobody moves them along.

Our team meets you after the entry formalities and transfers you to your hotel in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital of Galápagos. The afternoon is deliberately gentle  no long drives, no rush. We visit the Galápagos Interpretation Center, and there's a reason we do this on day one: everything you see over the next six days makes more sense afterwards. The exhibits explain how these islands rose from the ocean floor, how the first species crossed 1,000 kilometers of open water to reach them, and how people and wildlife share the archipelago today.

From there a short trail climbs to Cerro Tijeretas, a headland lookout over the bay where frigatebirds hang in the wind and a sheltered cove below gives you your first snorkel of the trip  often with young sea lions coming out to see who has arrived.

Day 2: Kicker Rock (León Dormido) — The Reason to Come to San Cristóbal

This is the day that justifies the extra island. León Dormido cannot be reached from Santa Cruz or Isabela on a day trip  it belongs to San Cristóbal, and travelers who skip this island never see it.

A sheer wall of rock rises 150 meters straight out of the ocean, split down the middle by a channel barely wider than the boat. You snorkel through it. The water is deep, cold and blue, and the channel works like a corridor: sea turtles, golden rays, reef sharks and Galápagos sharks pass beneath you, and in the cooler months scalloped hammerheads cruise the darker water below. It is exhilarating, entirely safe with your guide, and there is nothing else like it in the archipelago.

Afterwards we anchor at a quiet white-sand beach for lunch, swimming and warming up in the sun before returning to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.

Day 3: Crossing to Santa Cruz — The Working Heart of the Archipelago

Today you feel how island hopping actually works. After an early breakfast we board the speedboat for the two-hour crossing to Santa Cruz  open ocean, dolphins on the bow wave more often than not, and a genuine sense of distance between islands that a map doesn't convey.

Santa Cruz plays a different role from the other two. It's the operational and scientific center of Galápagos: the largest town, the main port, and the place where conservation work is actually run. That's why the afternoon belongs to the Charles Darwin Research Station.

Along shaded trails you meet giant tortoises at every stage of life, from hatchlings marked by year to breeding adults, and you see how the breeding and repatriation program pulled entire island populations back from the edge. Your guide ties it to Darwin's original observations the finches, the differing shell shapes from island to island, the idea that changed biology. Having already seen San Cristóbal, the differences start to mean something.

The rest of the day is yours: Avenida Charles Darwin, the fish market where pelicans and sea lions queue beside the counter, and the best shopping in the islands.

Day 4: Crossing to Isabela — Wall of Tears or Concha Perla

In the morning: we transfer by speedboat to Isabela, the largest, wildest and most relaxed of the inhabited islands. It's bigger than all the others combined, formed by six volcanoes fused into one, and almost none of it is inhabited. Puerto Villamil has no paved roads — sand streets, palm trees, and a beach that runs for kilometers with hardly anyone on it.

After checking in and having lunch, the afternoon is deliberately unhurried. No boats, no schedule  everything is reached on foot or by bicycle from the hotel. Choose the pace that suits you:

Option 1 : Wall of Tears by bicycle

A flat six-kilometer track follows the coast west of town, and we provide the bicycles. You stop where you want, for as long as you want. Along the way: Playa del Amor, a small empty cove; Poza Redonda, a collapsed lava sinkhole filled with seawater; a mangrove boardwalk where giant tortoises often wander across the path; and lookouts over the coast.

The road ends at the Wall of Tears, built stone by stone by prisoners under brutal conditions in the 1940s  a rare and sobering reminder that these islands have a human history too.

Option 2 : Snorkeling at Concha Perla

A ten-minute walk from the hotel, along a wooden boardwalk through the mangroves where sea lions sleep across the planks and simply refuse to move. You step around them.

At the end waits a natural pool of glass-clear water  sheltered, shallow, and reached entirely on foot. No boat, no current, no waves. Slip in and snorkel among sea turtles, eagle rays and colorful reef fish, with Galápagos penguins often fishing along the rocks. It's the gentlest snorkel of the trip, and the ideal way to spend an afternoon after two hours at sea.

Whichever you choose, we return in time for sunset on Puerto Villamil beach.

Day 5: Los Túneles — Isabela's Best Day

We transfer by speedboat to Isabela Island, the biggest, wildest and most laid-back of the inhabited Galapagos islands. There are almost no cars here, the streets are sand, and wildlife is everywhere the moment you step off the boat in Puerto Villamil.

If Kicker Rock was the deep blue, Los Túneles is the opposite extreme, and doing both in one trip is the argument for visiting three islands.

A boat ride down Isabela's southern coast brings us to a landscape that looks invented: hundreds of lava arches and bridges standing just above the waterline, formed when molten rock ran into the sea and cooled mid-collapse. Cactus grows on top of them; blue-footed boobies nest on the formations above.

Our captain navigates slowly through the channels before anyone gets wet. Then we snorkel  in water so shallow, still and clear that it barely feels like the same ocean. Green sea turtles in numbers, grazing and unbothered. White-tip reef sharks motionless under the lava ledges. Golden rays crossing the sand. Seahorses gripping the mangrove roots, for anyone patient enough to look. Galápagos penguins often fish alongside the boat.

A box lunch is served on board and we return in the afternoon, with time to rest or walk Puerto Villamil's long empty beach.

Day 6: Return to Santa Cruz — Tortuga Bay

We take the morning speedboat back to Santa Cruz ,the last inter-island crossing of the trip, and by now the routine is familiar. We arrive in Puerto Ayora before the town has properly woken up, with time for breakfast on the waterfront and a slow morning.

The afternoon is Tortuga Bay, and it belongs at the end rather than the beginning. After a week of boats, permits and guides, this is the one place you reach entirely on your own two feet: a flat, paved trail through cactus forest, about 45 minutes from the edge of town, no booking and no schedule.

The path opens onto Playa Brava, a long ribbon of white sand facing open ocean, regularly ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world. Keep walking to the far end, past rocks where marine iguanas gather by the hundreds, and the coast changes completely: Playa Mansa is a sheltered turquoise lagoon ringed by mangroves, calm enough for swimming and kayaking, where sea turtles surface beside you and small reef sharks rest in the shallows.

The evening is free on Charles Binford street, where the fresh catch comes out after dark.

Day 7: Santa Cruz Highlands — Giant Tortoises, Lava Tunnels & Departure

The last day is not a travel day, and it saves something the rest of the week doesn't have: altitude.

Every island you've seen so far has been coast — beaches, lava shores, mangroves. After breakfast and check-out we leave Puerto Ayora with your luggage and climb into the Santa Cruz highlands, which lie directly on the road to the airport. Within twenty minutes the arid coast gives way to green, misty Scalesia forest. Same island, unrecognizable.

At a giant tortoise ranch we walk among tortoises roaming freely across open pasture and ponds  wild animals, not enclosed, some weighing over 250 kilos and well past a century old. After a week of seeing tortoises in breeding pens, this is where you see them living as they always have. Rubber boots are provided.

At the same site we descend into the lava tunnels, underground tubes formed when the crust of a lava flow hardened while molten rock kept draining beneath. Some run for hundreds of meters and are tall enough to walk through upright  a last reminder that the ground here is younger than most cities on Earth.

We then continue to the Itabaca Channel, cross by ferry and reach Baltra Airport in time for your flight back to the mainland. Our representative assists you at check-in.

Three islands, three completely different faces of the same archipelago. You leave with something these islands give every visitor: the memory of animals that never learned to fear you.

“Pedro was a fantastic tour guide. I’d highly recommend booking this tour, it’s a combo of shared tours with a guide and a private tour. What’s even better is he acts as your have your own personal photographer and if you have dietary requirements this is perfect, since we don’t know the language Pedro handled everything.”

“I traveled to the Galapagos with a group of friends, and this 5 day tour through Santa Cruz, Isabela, and Santa Fe turned Outlook de ahí y to be so much more than just a trip… it’s something we’re still laughing about and talking about even now.
From the moment we arrived, everything felt easy and smooth. But what I really loved is that it didn’t feel like a structured tour. It felt more like traveling with friends, where someone else had already taken care of all the details. We just showed up, enjoyed, and lived in the moment.”

“Honestly, this was an experience that made me really happy.
The water in the Galápagos Islands is so clear it almost feels unreal, and snorkeling there was simply incredible. Everything feels so pure and natural… you truly connect with the place.
I love penguins, and I really wanted to see them but I also knew it’s not always easy. And just when I wasn’t expecting it anymore, they appeared.”

“This was a great experience in The Galapagos. All details were handled by Real Dreams tour company. Starting at the airport in Baltra, our guide Enrique met us inside the airport, led us to the line for the bus. He told us where to put our luggage and where to wait. The bus took us to a ferry. At the end of the ferry ride a driver was waiting to take us to the Tortoise Ranch. There we had lunch and Enrique gaves a tour of the grounds. Afterwards, our driver took us to our hotel in Santa Cruz.”
